Back-to-School DIY!
How time flies when you're having fun! In just the blink of an eye, Christmas and New Year's is over, and it's time for the kiddos to go back to school. If you're anything like us, you love using those rattan baskets to keep all your munchkin's bits and bobs right where you want them. The only problem is they look so alike to all the other childrens' school baskets! Well, we've DIYed the perfect solution! It's super easy, and you probably have all the materials at home already. Here's what you'll need:
- The rattan basket
- A ribbon in a bright or distinctive colour
- Glue
- Scissors
- A lighter
Now that you have all your materials, it's time to get started! First, wrap the ribbon around the handles of the basket, gluing it down as you go along. Make sure it's tight and secure so it doesn't unravel later.
We wrapped the entire handle (even the vertical bit near the top of the basket) with the dark blue ribbon to give it a more polished and finished look.
Once you've wrapped the ribbon to your satisfaction, use a lighter and melt the exposed edges of your ribbon to prevent it from fraying.
You can always stop here, but we just had to add a little special something! We had a souvenir license plate with little Kyle's name on it, so of course we had to use that to decorate the basket. We tied it onto the basket with some thick string, and voila! Take a look at our finished DIY:
Even Kyle loves it! Easy-peasy, lemon squeezy :) Now you'll always know which basket belongs to your little one at a glance. To make it stand out even more, you could also use a patterned ribbon, glue on some flower embellishments, or use twine instead. You could use paint to spell out a name or draw your kid's favourite animal. The possibilities are endless! We hope you enjoyed this super simple back-to-school DIY project. Until next time: happy crafting, everyone!
