Cute & Kid-Friendly Keychain DIY!

Cute & Kid-Friendly Keychain DIY!

For this week's DIY project, we'll be making some super adorbs keychain figurines from wooden beads! This project is totally kid-friendly and kid-safe, so if you need a weekend activity for the little munchkins, you're all set! Here are the materials you'll need:

Materials:

  1. Wooden beads (we used 3 different kinds: 1 for the head, 1 for the torso, 2 for the legs)
  2. String
  3. Sharpies
  4. Keychain rings
  5. Scissors
  6. Needle

The first thing you'll need to do is get a length of string, fold it in half so there are 2 strands, and tie it to the keychain ring on the folded end, like so:

Make sure there are 2 separate strands hanging from the keychain ring! This step is optional, but you can tie another knot here to secure the first bead in place.

Now comes the fiddly part! Thread both strands through the first wooden bead. This will be the head of our little keychain figure. Here's a tip: if your thread is being stubborn, you can use a needle (or safety pin) to push it out to the other side.

Once you're done with the "head" bead, it's time for the "torso" bead! We used a slightly more oval-shaped wooden bead for this. Repeat the same process as before, threading both strands through the bead, using the needle if necessary. Once you're done, you should have something like this:

Now for the little guy's legs! This time, thread one bead through each strand of thread. We used beads that were slightly more cylinder-shaped, so they looked more like a pair of legs! Once you're done with that, tie a knot at the end of each bead to secure them in place.

Now comes the fun part! Using Sharpies (or any other permanent marker), decorate the little guy any way you want. We added some brown hair, an adorably grumpy face, and a blue patterned shirt!

When you're happy with how your little guy is looking, snip off the excess thread.

We had so much fun making this guy, we even made a girl version to be his friend! We love how they turned out:

Super simple, affordable, and definitely fun for the whole family! Would you make keychains like these? If you do, we'd love to see your version of it :D Until next time, happy crafting, everyone!
