Hello, it is I, Ellie…. I’ve taken over this blog, and I’d like to begin my conquer with a review. Yes, I know you guys would like to know who the hell I am first, but nah… I’ll save the narcissistic introduction for tomorrow. Today, I’d like to talk fashion. And what better way to do so than review the big wooha of the month: – New York Fashion Week is in full motion, and while I still feel the fast-paced decline in fashion creativity (minimalism is NOT creativity, it’s a marketing scheme to save more money and save more time YET charge much higher!), it’s necessary I choose a few favorites from the recent shows.
Prabal Gurung’s show has been making headlines all over the Internet. With his dramatic elegance toned down a few notches, and a romanticism of the translucent kind, his collection is a sheer (pun much intended, please note pun much intended) delight to review. United Bamboo, on the other hand, concentrated on the thick and dull. But don’t get me wrong, I actually love the thick and dull… shades of black, grey, and well… more grey. Yes, I’m boring that way. Back to the collection… I love the slouchy overlayers against the softness of thinly fabricated shirts and blouses, a contrast that brings a sense of union between male comfort and female style.
Thakoon, ahhhh Thakoon… I will always have a soft spot for Thakoon because he showed us how far underdogs can go. However, his recent collections have lost that signature touch, that texture and silhouette synonymous to Thakoon’s youthful view of design. I’d like to say my opinion was wowed in this Fall/Winter collection, but meh, it was okay. I did, somehow, pick a few must-have pieces mainly because I’m a fan of drapes and folds.
So far, I’ve been mildly disappointed in NYFW. But the attention seeking skank in me fully appreciates the fact that sheer is a trend to be reckoned with.
