It was Malaysia Day on Sunday, and what better way to celebrate than to take a walk around the people that made Malaysia that much more meaningful, design-wise? We braved the crowd of the mall, and visited the 20bytwo Fashion Designer showcase over at Publika. 20bytwo is a cross-culture showcase that unites Malaysian and Singaporean fashion designers, and labels are handpicked so that we are catered by the best of both worlds. Among the names lined up for the perusal were Justin Yap, KLutched, Trioon, YaDotSa, and Al&Alicia (a personal favorite find!).

Needless to say, we left with empty wallets but happy hearts! Hope you guys enjoyed your Malaysia Day as much as we did ours!

Tongue in Chic sure knows how to make our shopping easier with their collection review videos! Loving the new play on Egyptian prints and hierographs, not to mention the designer tee collection. I wonder if they come in pregnant sizes ;p

Save the date for the shopping day for next year.

It’s been raining thunderstorms in Klang Valley, and while the weather subdues most moods, it shouldn’t mellow our hearts. Instead of moping around, convinced that your day is much wasted, take a look at these DIY inspirations…

Color Me Katie made this gorgeous mobile of little trinkets that seems intricate by sight but such a simple pleasure to make – who knew an old cd, some fishing wire, and a bunch of knick knacks could achieve such a floating fantasy?

Alessandra’s handsewn clouds mock the cloudy skies we face. Made of soft wool in creamy colors, a bunch of these fluffy specks of love will surely brighten your day (and space).

With nothing but some old floral fabrics and a worn-out printed tee, Ellie of Kitsch handstitched this stuffed doll for her little niece. A perfect use of old clothes (never throw away your pre-loved items!), this project is an ideal replacement for all those chew toys that both babies and puppies alike love.

Chris from ManmadeDIY wrote a feature post for Design*Sponge, a little tutorial on how to make your own designer mousepad. Amazingly creative and gender-friendly, this would make the best Father’s Day gift for that dorky, tech lovin’ dad of yours.

Tongue in Chic has DIY posts aplenty, but one of our favorites is the Furoshiki bag, mainly because we’re such eco-friendly nerds and this sure beats buying yet another green Village Grocer shopping bag. In fact, one of our little elves is expecting, and she’ll be attempting to reinvent this project into a baby sling.

Now what other excuse will you have to just sit there and laze the day away? Get busy, make something beautiful today :)
