Following our introduction to the first Artist Collection collaboration, this week’s What’s In Your Bag? guest is none other than our first artist, Su Lin. Mother of three and artist by blood, Su Lin finds the time to work on her creativity in many aspects, one of which being painting through the heart and soul.

1.What is the most important thing in your bag?

Without a doubt, my handphone is most essential to me, not to mention my Moleskine diary. I write down all my appointments and dates inside as well as my children’s schedule and their extra curriculum activities inside. Also, you’ll never know when a good sketch is going to come your way ;)

2. As a busy mom of three, do you find it hard to get organized?

Not really, I’ve grown accustomed to the ins-and-0uts of juggling my daily schedule. Great bags like Gin & Jacqie’s do help ease the traveling quite a bit! Also, never underestimate the importance of that handphone! Just to be in touch with people and especially for my kids to get hold of me or in case of any emergencies!

3. Besides the inevitable itch to paint, what is your favourite past time?

Tennis! I can play tennis everyday :) Of course I love to bake and decorate cakes. I will bake anything from bread, to muffins and to cakes. It’s very therepeutic in some ways, and a completely different form of art on its own. My close ones are regularly playing guinea pigs to my endeavors, but I find that these activities really bring me closer to friends and family alike. It just makes me happy.

The Artist Collection is available for purchase at Gin & Jacqie, and if you would like a custom designed painting by Su Lin, email us at info@ginjacqie.com for more details!

I came across this awesome art project that involves Photoshopping your child’s artwork alongside their photographs. The best part is, no matter how much of a noob you are at Photoshop, the link includes a super easy and direct method to creating that ideal picture to be framed in the pride of your living room wall.

Phil Lately by Lydia Nichols. Amazing concept wrapped in quirky drawings.

Am not much of a cat lover, but my dog-filled home could do with these two cats by Catherine Campbell.

The Tiny Tower addict/geek in me screams “HELL YES!” to these Bit characters!!! Found via Irishstu.

A character a day keeps the blues away. A-Face-A-Day is a compilation of illustrations by an Austrian artist and a truly lovely way to remember the faces and spaces that flood a path. Happy Monday, guys!

If there’s one thing I truly love obsessing over, it’s the form and function of a repetitive stroke repeating, yet conforming, into abstract and organic motions that seem translucent against its being. Sara Blake’s intricately designed strokes reduce hard paper to lucid images that haunt your mind with dreams sublime; I am completely smitten by this poetry in drawing.

Itching for designer furniture? Can’t blardy afford anything other than Ikea? Sick of your home looking like every other home that’s fully dependent on the ease and accessibility of that blardy Scandinavian cult of a first-home necessity? Well then, don’t fret. The best thing about Ikea furniture is that they’re almost always customizable, as long as you’ve got some wit and taste in your own two hands. If not, here’s two sites that’ll assist you in personalizing your Ikea stuff.

Mykea offers a service that allows you put your own photos, or a series of unique designs, onto your Ikea furniture. It lets you upload a photo and walks you through a step-by-step process to create an adhesive covering tailored to fit a specific piece of Ikea furniture. Getting your photo covering onto your Ikea furniture doesn’t appear terribly difficult – all that’s required is a spray bottle, some soapy water and a spatula (see a step-by-step guide here). When you’re done, you’ve got personalized Ikea furniture. If you’re so completely devoid of design independence, you can opt for one of their ready-made designs. Before you know it, nobody will ever be able to recognize your Expedit bookcase again!

Ikea hackers is one of my ultimate favorite revamp sites to visit, especially considering my entire home is filled with those damn Scandis. Not only is it an amazing site of DIY projects and furniture modifications, it’s Malaysian-made! With worldwide “hackers” uploading their little projects alongside each item’s model names for your copy convenience, Ikea hackers is the ideal blog to reinvent your otherwise bland furniture with a customized stamp of self approval.

So now that you know that mass can be chic, head over to Ikea and get to redesigning! As for where your copied sources came from, Malm’s the word.

Pulled: A Catalog of Screen Printing by Mike Perry

Coming from someone who fully depended on black garments to get me through each outfit for the longest, longest time, I’d like to clarify that once you go black, you can always go back. Colors always make the day a brighter saying filled with deeper meanings. So this Friday, whether you’re feeling gloomy or all Bieber-ed up from last night’s concert (no, I was not part of the screaming, raging crowd of pedophiles), put on at least one brightly lit item before you step out of the door…. Trust me, it makes a world of a difference :)

Kosha balloon print overknee socks, Postalco. for Opening Ceremony notebook, orange business card file box, Kiki London vintage obi clutch

It’s the first Sunday of the New Year, and we vow to brighten our days with way more prints and colors than ever before, starting with our top shopping picks of the day. While we’re still a tad shy to don overknee socks in KL, we’re loving this Kosha balloon print pair that comes in three different color sets. And of course, one can never have enough notebooks, so we’ve got our eyes set on Postalco.’s specially designed notebooks for Opening Ceremony. Then there’s the classic but adorably shaped obi print clutch by Kiki of London. But our favorite of the above favorites is the orange business card file found on Etsy.

With folder tabs made of vintage record covers and worn out paint on the box bases, these have a nice rustic feel to them that cater to the music lover in all of us, not to mention the obsessive organizer in all of us ^_^ Comes in a variety of colors and boxes for different tasks, we wish we could have one to perk up each of our office desks!!!
