Hey hey, we’re halfway through the hardest day of the week! If you’d like some brilliant cynicism to get you through the day, check out Portland-based artist Alyson Provax’s  letterpress series, aptly titled “Time Wasting Experiment.” The only note we would recommend she add to her series would be “20 minutes of relentless candy crushing leading to failure of chocolate balls.” Damn you, Candy Crush. Give us back our Monday.

Hey ho, in the blink of an eye it’s another week gone by! We’ve been so busy jetting around and rushing stocks out to you guys that we completely missed the memo about it being March already! For those of you still having a hard time letting go of 2012, why not greet each month with a Marimekko free desktop wallpaper with calendar? We’ve been making full use of this free awesomeness since last year, and they truly do brighten up a day at work (that, and amazing customer comments!), not to mention keep our desktops looking so darn pretty!

Always fond of juxtapositions, we’re loving the home of Jason Santa Maria and Megan Born featured on DesignSponge. There is an ease in the mixture of history against modernity, of Finnish against handmade, of organic against architecture. The rooms are decorated in the direct form of basic necessities, with added life by the decorative knick knacks that bring colors and character into clean and organized.

If we were to replicate the design direction of this lovely home, the only thing we’d really change is to switch the bright chair with the dull work desk. Check out our version below:

ROOMS

1. About A Chair by Hay 2. Vintage blue typewriter from Outdated 3. Strut large table 4. Nala green pillow cover 5. Dark grey three-sitter sofa from Ikea 6. Terry Fan for Society6 whale print 7. Vintage turkish kilim rug

We’ve always appreciated successful rebrandings, and Vova Lifanov truly inspires with this rebranding of a shawl museum that brings an otherwise traditional overview of a product into the chic and modernity of today’s market.

Once upon a time, it was disrespectful and downright gaudy to wear print against print. Even those of matching hues would depict sheer faux pas. But that’s the thing about fashion; it’s a complete contradiction of itself. Today, print on print is the way to impress, and while I’m still a tad reluctant to try it out myself, here’s my take on this current trend, slightly muted with a lot of golds and browns so that the outfit is not drowning my body:

As the mom in the group, I tend to find holidays more of a hassle than a calming relaxation. While I can’t control how the kids would react to new environments and different situations, I can, however, try my best to keep organized and lessen the chaos that will ensue. Hence, when the new travel stocks arrived in the office, I did all but dive right into the boxes to dig out my favorite colors to bring to me on my short weekend away for a quick test run! I decided on two products: the revamped Tidy Anne with new prints and colors, as well as our latest Bailey Travel Kit, a multifunctional group of bags that makes traveling that much easier.

The Bailey Travel Kit comes in a compact pouch of its own, and in it consists of three separate bags of three different sizes. The smallest of the three drawstring pouches is for toiletries, which came to good use when I had to hoard all those toiletries that came with the hotel room! The second is a shoe bag, which my husband gladly used to keep his new shoes clean. And the third is a huge laundry bag, which I used to store all out wet swimsuits since all three bags are waterproof. The Bailey Kit was useful in a  sense that I had everything in its place, and the minute I got home, I managed to unpack within minutes!

The second product that I brought along with me on my mini trip away was our Tidy Anne undergarments bag. It has pockets on both side, and its netting insert buttons into place and is easily removed to be thrown into your washing machine, keeping your undergarments safe. After thirteen years of marriage, I don’t own any sexy lingerie that could use careful handling, but I liked having a place to keep all my used undergarments, as unglamorous as that may sound. Again, it made unpacking so quick, and because of the netting insert, I don’t even have to transfer my underwire bras into my usual washing netting. And I’m so in love with the bright colors they came in!

So yes, while I barely got any sleep thanks to the two kids not getting along, I managed to ease a little stress with a bit of trendy organization. As designers, we’ve all been through our fair share of amusingly absurd comments from clients. The folks over at Sharpsuit.net decided to forge a collaboration with Ireland’s creative community to “release a lot of pent up anger and sadness through the medium of the A3 poster, all in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital.” Based on horrible and impossible feedbacks and requests from clients, the posters were relatable to most of us in the design field, and brought a good laugh to all of us. Think Clients From Hell, but with a graphic update.

The project has received such overwhelming response that Sharpsuit has stopped orders as of now. We’ll be looking out for their next batch of prints, because we really do need to hang up some understanding posters along the corridors of our walls ;p
