It’s Monday, and Jacqie’s in Japan spreading the Gin & Jacqie love around! Which brings us to this Monday’s perk-me-up about a Japanese boy and his French bulldog. Tokyo-based mother, Aya Sakai, has been posting up awwwwweeee-some pictures on Instagram of everyday bonding sessions between her boy and his best friend, and seriously, it doesn’t get any cuter than this. If you’re having a gloomy start to your Monday, we can assure you that your day – and week – will turn around after following Aya Sakai and her snippets into this amazingly adorable friendship. And if you’d like a peek into Jacqie’s journey around Japan, don’t forget to also follow US on Instagram!

This week’s Mother’s Day giveaway comes from none other than one of our favorite local handmade brands, Oh & Ah! We wrote about Oh & Ah wayyyy back when (click to read), but the brand has expanded heaps since then. With new products under their legally charming belts, Oh & Ah has proven that a little innocence and a lot of good design sense goes a really long way. We asked them to recommend three of their latest products for those of you who aren’t familiar with the brand, and here’s what they picked:

bus-sekolah

“Our Bus Series has been really popular among the Lapan crowd. There are three designs available for purchase: bus sekolah (a long yellow school bus for RM79), bus mini (a smaller model in pink at RM59), and our latest addition which is the zoo bus (RM79). Right now, the bus mini is sold out.”
elephantlight
“Another favorite among customers is our Elephant design light (retailing at RM230). These lights are made of clay, and are attached with a lightbulb AND dimmer. We love hearing what people decipher this clay guy to be; some have said monkey, others have thought of him as an odd-shaped man, the list goes on… However, to us he is an elephant!”
OhAh_30celciousRing2
“These little guys sunbathing on patches of grass have been on constant repeat through our collections since the days of setting up shop at Art for Grabs. We love them because to us, they represent Malaysia’s hot weather, where so many enjoy a wonderful sunbathing temperature of 30 degrees almost all year round. Now they’re available on easy-to-wear rings, adjustable to fit all sizes. They retail at RM39 each, and are really fun conversation pieces to have on hand (pardon the pun!)!” <—EDITOR’S NOTE: Ellie couldn’t resist these adorable sunbathing dudes, and has bought a few already!

The generous peeps of Oh & Ah are giving away three Hello Marks (first picture of this post) to three lucky followers of Gin & Jacqie! There are two ways you can win yourself a handsome little bookmark by Oh & Ah:
Facebook: leave us a comment on our Gin & Jacqie wall and tell us about a favorite story or book your mom used to read to you when you were younger.

Instagram: snap a picture of your favorite childhood storybook as read to you by your beloved mom, and hashtag #ginjacqie #lovebooks so that we can keep track of all entries. Please note that if your account is set under Private, we will be unable to see your tags, so do leave us a comment on our Oh & Ah instagram pic to inform us of it!
This contest will run from today up ’til the 24th of May 2013. In addition to their generous prizes, Oh & Ah are also giving away a 10% discount to everyone! Simply type in “iloveumom” upon checkout on their shopping site to redeem. This discount lasts up to the 30th of June 2013, so stop wasting time and get to purchasing some awesomely handmade stuff!

So we’re back in the office from a really great and long Chinese New Year break! With all our routes completely split from one another, we didn’t even get much time to meet up nor be in the same location at once. Still, nothing stopped us from coinciding the glees of the festivities: the one thing we had in common with each of us in the team is that we all enjoyed a great deal of joyous moments with our closest families and friends, not to mention great food! To share snippets of our holiday with you, here’s a little compilation of Instagram shots shared between one another:

Hope you guys had as wonderful a celebration as we did! And now, it’s back to business as usual!

It’s Monday morning, another mundane work day to most, and the beginning of a really great day to others. If you’re anything like me, doing a good deed keeps my spirits up for the day, if not the week. So instead of moping around the office, groaning about that inevitable deadline that you will eventually forget about due to lack of a much-needed calendar, take a few minutes to check out and support Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better. Our friends from Reddbullets combined with Directors Think Tank photographed and designed a gorgeous calendar for MDDB that highlights a heroic dog each month of 2013. The dogs are featured with their stories and how they came to be saved by MDDB, and most of them are still in need of loving homes.

Between the amazing photography of beautiful dogs, the crisp bright pages that brighten a desk, and the inspirational stories that remind us every day just how lucky we are to  have each Monday, there is no reason why you should not stop to lend a helping hand. To purchase the Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better 2013 Calendar – available for only RM20 with all proceed going to MDDB – contact MDDB on their Facebook page. Pass it forward, and have a great Monday!

handprint 5

Yes, our DIY posts normally fall on Wednesdays and today is Monday, but since Christmas is our favorite time of the year, we actually got carried away with DIY craft projects! So here’s an additional one for this week, just because it’s only Christmas Eve and there’s still time for one more project! My 2yo and I were looking at ways to customize our tree decorations, and decided to make some Santa ornaments out of handprints. With some art block, red and white non-toxic watercolors, cotton balls and cotton sheets, and glue, we had such fun starting an entire factory of Santa handprints!

Use your child’s handprint as the base of your Santa figure. Once the red paint has dried, have your child paint Santa’s face out in the form of a rough circle. Then use the same red paint and paint over the top of Santa’s head so that it covers over as his hat. Paint white stripes over each arm and leg for costume detail, and draw eyes with a basic black pen. Lastly, glue the cotton ball onto the tip of his hat, and fold the cotton sheet into a triangle to be glued as his beard. Cut around your Santa figure, and punch a hole on the top of his head to insert a ribbon or thread. After that, all that’s left to do is hang your kid’s Santa handprints up with pride!

These would also make adorable gift tags as well as Christmas greeting cards. Have fun!

We journeyed through a vicarious fairytale over the weekend, from eating faux fish and chips, to kissing strangers that drowned in their love for caffeine, to harvesting bunnies on a mission to conquer the world. This personal post describes clearly my love of being a mom – it gives me back a childhood we all tend to lose within the reality of the world, the daunting of work, and the pressure of growing up.

Revelations through the power of imagination is the best form of design. Am so prepared for a week of designing excellent bags ahead!

It was a pleasantly smooth weekend, filled with warm apple pies and lovely prints on both new and old purchases. My pregnancy feet have expanded to the size of sausages, so I had to rush out to grab some cheap Vincci flats to last me through the next two months. Sure, they’re not the best options for a strong back, but I can’t bear to spend a truckload on shoes I’d only be wearing for a short while. As for the Babar print, it’s my favorite part of the nursery, a gift from my brother that always brings me back to childhood :)

There’s something so dreamy behind the faceless passion that drives Polish artist Jarek Puczel to paint his expressionless yet emotion-engrossed figures. I am in love.
