We’ve all been made to wear curtains when we were younger… or at least I have. Of course, nowadays credit goes to creativity as opposed to frugality, and looking at moms like iCandy make it obvious to see why. She made the adorable frocks above out of pillow cases, and if you would like to do the same, click on the tutorial link which includes the original draft found at Gingercake.

So our lovely supplier thought it would be hilarious to give us tokens of his adoration for himself in the form of tees with his photo printed onto them. Needless to say, I will never wear mine, especially not with a growing belly of a baby. Hence, I decided to torment my beloved toddler with it by changing it into a baby tee.

I always love the box shape for tees, and I basically cropped the original tee into half, and got rid the sleeves. Pretty easy, I barely used a ruler. Don’t mind the fabric egg, my daughter – for some odd reason – really wanted to put it onto the tee. I even removed it a few times, but she kept placing it back on -_-”

Twenty minutes later, my bub has a new fangirl top. I made tabs at the sleeves just for a little difference in design. She paraded around with it for a family outing, and boy did she get a lot of attention… not because I did a great job sewing it up, but because of our supplier’s narcissistic picture ;p

I don’t know if my bub really, really needs the newly-launched DVF x babyGap kids collection, but I really, really want her to have every piece available. Now, to conjure up the best plan possible to steal my husband’s credit card…

Last weekend, we got news that the F.O.S. outlet was having a closing down sale, and that everything in there was going at 70% off. So we rushed down and ransacked the bins for goodies galore. Sadly, the sizes were too big and the cuttings unflattering, but one of our expecting moms-to-be decided that that was good news. So we grabbed a few colors and prints that were eye-catching, and were delighted to know that our bill for 5 pieces only came up to RM13.90! (the tags state 50% but they were all 70% off).

We brought the bundle home to let our designers play, and within a few hours, they’d already come up with good use to two of the blouses we purchased…

Yup, we made baby clothes out of the oversized blouses. See, it’s no surprise that quality baby clothing comes with a hefty price, and buying jersey cotton by the metre at your local fabric store even pricier… So we took the clothes and used them as if raw fabric. The total cost for this dress and onesie was RM5.50, and was such fun to make that we’ve dug out some old tees for our designers to make even more clothes with! If you’re a stay-at-home mom with the most basic of sewing skills, this is a fun and cost-efficient project to bond you with your child :)

Oh, and if you were wondering how we made the adorable penguin and deer, well… we didn’t. We merely bought some iron-ons from a haberdashery. You can also purchase sheets of iron-on felt to make your own patterns out of at Artfriend, and for other cute add-ons, Czip Lee has many adorable buttons and gadgets to bedazzle your child’s outfit with. Have fun!!!

Nude pastels have never looked so joyful as served on a mini platter. Whoever said kids should be adorned in bright colors from head to toe obviously misconstrued their own lack of color confidence for style. If you’re one of those lost souls, take a gander at SmallAble for a taste of muted wonder.
