So we all love ang paos/red packets of yummy money. But visiting friends and family on Chinese New Year shouldn’t always be about the taking and not to giving. Some bring hampers, others bring cartons of mandarin oranges, but if you’re looking for something a little more modern, we’ve found two solutions to your showing up empty handed at another open house this year.

1. Cuppacakes CNY cupcakes.

This year, Cuppacakes brings two themes for the picking. Orange Blossom is a vibrant palate of sweet treats, while Red Lantern is all about the rich hues. Each pack comes with 36 petite cupcakes and cost a mere RM90. They can also customize company logos into the mix for a different price.

2. House of Creo bunny cookies

We came across these cookies on Facebook, and found out that it was from the gorgeous Hannah Lo. Each box has three different bunny shapes in orange caramel flavor: Spring Blossom, Golden Prosperity, and And Pao Bunny. An assortment of six is priced at RM36.88, a dozen for RM69.88, and a family pack of 27 is RM152.88. For more info, simply email your enquiries or orders to sales.houseofcreo@gmail.com or call 017-2233488. Hurry, as stocks are limited!

We’ll also be posting up some CNY gift ideas within the week. Keep checking in for some creative goodies!

bride and groom cupcakes homemade

When the going gets tough, the tough gets cupcakes. Just like the rest of you, we at Gin & Jacqie suffer from mid-week blues. Mondays are dreadful, Tuesdays are Facebook game-pondering (shhh, nobody tell the boss lady!), Wednesdays Thursdays and Fridays are, obviously, the WTF days of the week. But if there’s one thing that keeps us going, it’s the little things do we for one another. Could be lollipops hidden in files, or daisies by the toilet sink, or even Hello Panda biscuits for everyone in the office… yes, we’re sweet treats lovers.

Still, nothing beats cupcakes. Yummy, easily accessible, such a delight to obsess over… and perfect for every occasion. While Cuppacakes by Wondermilk is no new name around the block, we love their new prints collection for the quirk and vintage feel of things.

Cupcake Chic now delivers around KL for a minimum order. While their deco may seem bland in comparison to Cuppacakes’, the flavors are too good to pass off. From PB Chips to Onde-onde to Peaches & Cream, Cupcake Chic is as delicious on the cream topping as they are on the bottom base.

But of course, nothing beats homemade. Nowadays, everyone’s a master of cupcakes, and one of the easiest ways to decorate your cupcakes if you don’t have a steadily artistic hand is to don them with DIY cupcake flags.

But let’s face is… not everyone jumped onto the overdriven bandwagon. With cupcakes sold at every angle of your obscene sight, the thought of yet another sinful bite actually disgusts some people. For your colleagues or friends who despise cupcakes, you can pick them up something of close resemblance such as Delectables’ mini cheesecakes packed in adorable gift boxes :)

Or you could opt for something much cuter in size with J.Co Donut’s mini J.Pops. For a box of 24 in a variety of flavors, these bad boys are way worth the RM18 and are a guaranteed crowd pleaser. But be warned, once you pop you can’t stop!

So there you have it… local yummies to make that work week just that more smile-worthy among friends and potentially rude acquaintances you might wanna suck up to for the sake of a better future alike.

Happy Tuesday!
