We came across Nicholas Choong by accident aka stalking creatives on Facebook. A DJ cum artist, Nicholas translates his daily views of the local scenes and people with the rough flourish of pens and paints. Strong and bold strokes of color instill a sense of life in his pieces, be it notebook sketches or completed paintings.

While he doesn’t have an official website for his art, you can follow him on Facebook for updates on his artwork. The good news is that his artworks will be available for sale at Art for Grabs this weekend, and prices range from RM50-RM500! With Father’s Day fast approaching, you might want to consider brightening your dad’s study with one of Nicholas’ amazing pieces

Everyone (by that, I mean the Internet) is in smithereens following last week’s explosive episode of HBO’s Game Of Thrones. Not for the faint of heart, GoT always pushes the limit of what makes suitable TV – although they do deliver in terms of storyline and production design. Late as I am to the bandwagon, it never hurts to express some love by drawing the House sigils on cork coasters!

You will need: some cork coasters, chalk, Sharpie / Artline markers and of course, reference pictures of what do you want to draw.

Start sketching out the guidelines for your design. I find chalk the best candidate as you can easily remove it later on.

Once you are satisfied with your sketch, start inking the details in! I used a Sharpie with a brush tip as it gives me more fluid lines as per a calligraphy brush.

This step is optional, but if you wish to touch up on your work, feel free! I used a Black Artline 210 in Medium 0.6. To remove the chalk lines, erase them gently with an eraser. Should your inked lines fade, worry not – you can fill them in again.

And voila! A set of coasters all ready to be used in whichever way you please. May we suggest tacking it to the walls ala our previous DIY? We’re sure you guys remember this amazing transformation video and posts about Illy’s Push Button House. Illy hired Adam Kalkin of Quik House to design a basic shipping container into a metamorphosis that happens with the touch of a button. The container opens up into a fully furnished and running cafe within the span of 90 seconds, and this eco-friendly ingenuity has been used for disaster reliefs, luxury showcases, as well as just for great coffee.

Now the concept of building with and within shipping containers has become a trend, and one that we really approve of! Not only are they economical space-wise, they’re also light on the wallet and provides such a great extension to many homes. Take, for instance, Ecopods.

Ecopods are an easy transportable containers that are designed to be durable spaces made for porting around. They’re energy-saving low in cost to manage.

The best part about containers is that you can readily extend the space by adding more containers. Such picturesque perfection would definitely get the creative juices flowing!

While containers are making a name for themselves as the latest “IT” space to live in/by, have you ever wondered where this concept of living in a box came from? Well, we happen to come across an article on “Why Finnish babies sleep in cardboard boxes“, and we believe that the old tradition that has been keeping moms well adjusted is trickling down into modernity. Yes, the title sounds traumatizing, but on the contrary, this “baby box” that the government offers to expecting mothers has helped lessen infant mortality by a tremendous amount. Raya is fast approaching, and while our palates are anticipating great food, what really makes this year’s Raya preparations special is that the local fashion designers are really shining through in celebration of this great occasion. Jovian Mandagie may have paved the way for chic and effortless Raya designs, but this year, all eyes are on Nurita Harith’s preorder collection. Delicate colors, floral prints, classic silhouettes, and that amazingly fluid grace that is authentically Nurita. I was completely and utterly smitten by Valerie (first picture), but was devastated to find out that it’s already sold out within hours! Hence, I will have to wait in hopes of ordering past Raya. Recently, I threw a farewell party for a friend who was leaving to pursue a career in Singapore. She wanted something to remind everyone of her, and because we had very little time to make something from scratch, we came up with simple customizable gifts to give out at her party: forget-me-knot journals.

We found these great faux leather journals in Daiso which came with long cloth closures to bound together. We drew hearts on each cover, and cut them out. Then we painted the first page of the journal with pink acrylic, and just glued the cover to the first page once the acrylic dried. She wrote a simple message onto each heart for every friend, and that’s it! Super fast to make, super sweet to receive, this forget-me-knot journal is sure to remind that loved one of your love!
