Quilted bags from H by Harris. Amazing stuff for both men and women.

We’re completely adoring the simplistic feminity in Erin Fetherson’s Resort collection 2011, especially the last dress in its luscious nude tone.

bride and groom cupcakes homemade

When the going gets tough, the tough gets cupcakes. Just like the rest of you, we at Gin & Jacqie suffer from mid-week blues. Mondays are dreadful, Tuesdays are Facebook game-pondering (shhh, nobody tell the boss lady!), Wednesdays Thursdays and Fridays are, obviously, the WTF days of the week. But if there’s one thing that keeps us going, it’s the little things do we for one another. Could be lollipops hidden in files, or daisies by the toilet sink, or even Hello Panda biscuits for everyone in the office… yes, we’re sweet treats lovers.

Still, nothing beats cupcakes. Yummy, easily accessible, such a delight to obsess over… and perfect for every occasion. While Cuppacakes by Wondermilk is no new name around the block, we love their new prints collection for the quirk and vintage feel of things.

Cupcake Chic now delivers around KL for a minimum order. While their deco may seem bland in comparison to Cuppacakes’, the flavors are too good to pass off. From PB Chips to Onde-onde to Peaches & Cream, Cupcake Chic is as delicious on the cream topping as they are on the bottom base.

But of course, nothing beats homemade. Nowadays, everyone’s a master of cupcakes, and one of the easiest ways to decorate your cupcakes if you don’t have a steadily artistic hand is to don them with DIY cupcake flags.

But let’s face is… not everyone jumped onto the overdriven bandwagon. With cupcakes sold at every angle of your obscene sight, the thought of yet another sinful bite actually disgusts some people. For your colleagues or friends who despise cupcakes, you can pick them up something of close resemblance such as Delectables’ mini cheesecakes packed in adorable gift boxes :)

Or you could opt for something much cuter in size with J.Co Donut’s mini J.Pops. For a box of 24 in a variety of flavors, these bad boys are way worth the RM18 and are a guaranteed crowd pleaser. But be warned, once you pop you can’t stop!

So there you have it… local yummies to make that work week just that more smile-worthy among friends and potentially rude acquaintances you might wanna suck up to for the sake of a better future alike.

Happy Tuesday!

Like all lovers of local creativity, we spent our Saturday at Urbanscapes basking in the warm sunshine of the buzzing market. There were many stalls worth visiting, and many worth skipping – we’re not exactly fans of the mass produced and widely marketed Bangkok/China stocks. Thankfully, Freeform did a great job filtering the vendors down to a mix of eclectic wonders.

The monetary status was brutal, but we really loved meeting so many of you lovely peeps. Hope you guys enjoyed the day as much as we did!

So everyone’s pumped up for Urbanscapes, and we’re no exceptions! We’ve been fussing over the appropriate outfits for this sunshiney occassion of a picture-perfect day out (not to mention hard at work selling more bags to…. dum dum dum… buy even MORE bags!). But we’re much more stringent with the cash this year, therefore we’ve calculated our purchases down to a T, beginning with Pestle & Mortar’s awesomely patriotic tees.

We’ve already got our eyes set on the Telur Mata print, mmmmm…

And then comes our favorite blocks of pure illustrious wood; Blok On! light boxes. Half our team already own at least one customized block each, but we’re looking to decorate the office space with some yummy words (perhaps sexy even *rawr*)

They’re the ideal presents for housewarmings and baby showers :) And if we’re lucky, the artist’s wifey will show up with her intricate wooden necklaces as well.

For the sake of picking up some trendy notebooks, we’ve targeted the likes of Ilovesnackfood… We were delighted to know that they brought in Archie Grand’s notebooks, and we need way more than one or four!

Again, ideal gift idea, the Archie Grand notebooks.

Of course, there are many more desires in sight, but for the sake of our budget (a tentative RM200 which includes Palate Palette’s incredibly delicious lamb hot dogs *crossing fingers they return*), we’ve narrowed it down to these three favorites. But if you come across a bunch of shopping-driven females begging for cash in a random corner of KLPAC… that’ll be us and you should say hi.

We’re a lost whale in the world of Twitter… would a kind soul or two help us out by being our friend? For an entire week, we’ll be picking two lucky daily winners to receive goodie bags… All that’s required on your part is to click on the itsy bitsy “Follow” icon. We’ll keep you entertained with tweets, we promise :)

Following up on our DIY Father’s Day gift ideas, we came up with a packaging idea fit for any budget… well, any budget below RM10 for packaging, that is. We’ve prepared two simple box templates for you guys to play with.

The first is a basic box of 8cm x 8cm, and can fit small items such as a watch, a pack of homemade cookies, a golf ball, etc. The second is a CD envelope with pockets for both a CD and a nice letter or greeting card for your dad. For the safe minds, simply bring this image to your local printers and print either templates out onto A3 ivory cards in any color preference. For those with time to play, get creative with them by doodling on the blank spaces or making a collage… anything your heart desires.

One of our in-house designers chose to draw on hers. Because the template is printed on ivory card, the paper absorbs liquid easily, so paint can also be used to color in your box.

The littler ones, on the other hand, kept with the Pollock effect. Messy splatters of watercolor along the template gives kids the freedom to have fun with this project. Hand prints were a favorite among the group, and so were The Beatles tracks.

As for that Emergency Stress Kit pictured way above… well, that was made for our boss. And in it?…

… A smiley face stress ball which we found for RM2 at Czip Lee, Bangsar. Yes, we’ve established the fact that we are, indeed, cheap. But we sure do know how to bring a smile to someone’s life on a pretty budget!

So whether you’re giving your dad nothing or something small, make sure you package it with loads of heart and care :)

It’s been raining thunderstorms in Klang Valley, and while the weather subdues most moods, it shouldn’t mellow our hearts. Instead of moping around, convinced that your day is much wasted, take a look at these DIY inspirations…

Color Me Katie made this gorgeous mobile of little trinkets that seems intricate by sight but such a simple pleasure to make – who knew an old cd, some fishing wire, and a bunch of knick knacks could achieve such a floating fantasy?

Alessandra’s handsewn clouds mock the cloudy skies we face. Made of soft wool in creamy colors, a bunch of these fluffy specks of love will surely brighten your day (and space).

With nothing but some old floral fabrics and a worn-out printed tee, Ellie of Kitsch handstitched this stuffed doll for her little niece. A perfect use of old clothes (never throw away your pre-loved items!), this project is an ideal replacement for all those chew toys that both babies and puppies alike love.

Chris from ManmadeDIY wrote a feature post for Design*Sponge, a little tutorial on how to make your own designer mousepad. Amazingly creative and gender-friendly, this would make the best Father’s Day gift for that dorky, tech lovin’ dad of yours.

Tongue in Chic has DIY posts aplenty, but one of our favorites is the Furoshiki bag, mainly because we’re such eco-friendly nerds and this sure beats buying yet another green Village Grocer shopping bag. In fact, one of our little elves is expecting, and she’ll be attempting to reinvent this project into a baby sling.

Now what other excuse will you have to just sit there and laze the day away? Get busy, make something beautiful today :)

Nude pastels have never looked so joyful as served on a mini platter. Whoever said kids should be adorned in bright colors from head to toe obviously misconstrued their own lack of color confidence for style. If you’re one of those lost souls, take a gander at SmallAble for a taste of muted wonder.

Combining two passions together, Gwen Samuels has created an ingenious artform in handstitching transparencies together into dresses. Mindblowingly beautiful.
