If you’re a struggling artist trying to make it big in Malaysia, you’d know what a waste of time it is considering our government doesn’t even spend a cent educating themselves on the basis of understanding AND appreciating local creativity. However, most of us love Malaysia too much to want to give it up. So we choose to struggle here, make it big here, make a difference here. And in good company, too… previous mention exempted from any credit whatsoever.

With groups like Wondermilk and 30dayartist combining creative minds into happy communities and making the world that much more connectible, we’re pretty darn lucky to have a constant growth of brainstorming minds. And Amy is one of those taking small steps to helping us grow with her little collection of illustrations stapled into one; Good To Know.

Good To Know is a mini self-printed mag that forms a guide to being an independent artist. Each issue targets a particular topic or common problem faced by any artist out there, and every issue cover is designed by a different person. Sure, it’s nothing big and anyone can do it with a printer and pretty awesome blogger contacts… but then again, has anyone here done it? Nope.

Still, while we’re liking the mini issues, it’s Amy’s blog that we need – we repeat, NEED TO -  rave about. A full-blown illustration lover, her taste in compilation of art pieces, zines, prints, and even toys, is impeccable and nothing less than pure delight to the eyes.

Thanks to Amy, we’ve been on a constant creative high from her recommended reads and impressive finds. So if you’re facing an artist block with a dried up styrofoam cup in one hand and an imaginary pill in the other, do drop by The Illustrated Life where impressive portrayals of fantasy and reality bend space into one compact visit.

Check out our handy boarding pass holders, aptly named Billie (coz it’s such an uber unisex name), at our online store now. With three color options, this is one holder perfect as that last minute Father’s Day token of appreciation plus belated Mother’s day matching piece if you’ve been a naughty and forgetful meanie :)

…ChicPop’s latest Street Market edition at Sunway Giza this weekend! Tongue in Chic has thrown a countless amount of great bashes and thrifty street markets, and we’re excited to see what they have in “stall” for us shopaholics this time around. Spot us there, decked in fun and yellow stripes!

thank you note from *this* adorably unique idea of a blog

Mondays are hard to get by, literally. But we love Mondays for all its little quirks and unconditional faith in itself despite the cruel hatred of all employees worldwide (minus the occassional few who get Mondays off to compensate weekends spent at work). Here are a few inspirational blogs to stir your restless hearts and get your week started on the right note, just because we love Mondays that much :)

1. LeLove is our favorite mushy blog ever. It contains both heart wrenching and heart warming stories, not to mention great pictures to keep and enlighten. We do not recommend you visit this blog during work hours… cry-worthy, for sure.

2. Carboardlove began as an original messaging service from a guy to his girl, and now it’s blown up to be the rival example of how all men should be. The site will make you wanna run home and slap your man in the face for not being as adorably sincere to you :)

3. Anything Marc Johns. Yes we are lovers of Marc Johns, be it his odd eyes on lipsticks or antlers on conversation bubbles… His quirky sense of a mind both baffles and tickles us, and if you like raw, understated talent, do visit his blog for more, oh much much more! (sorry he kinda turns us on)

4. Speaking of turn ons, we’re a little hesitant to admit this but we are oh-so-obsessed with turning the pages of this tumblr site, aptly named Cute Boys With Cats. Expect nothing less. We also recommend you bored people open Tumblr sites of your own as a self-compiled space of wonderful stuff floating around the www.

Last but not least, the Gin & Jacqie blog. Oh wait, you’re already here! Well, that proves you have every bit the taste and wit that we declare our readers/shoppers to have, and for that, we love you more than Monday. We hope we made your Monday the way you’ve indefinitely made ours :)

Completely adoring these handmade collectibles by Tas-ka. A little too over our budget but a great visit of an online shop nonetheless. We spotted a few designs we might wanna try out in our little workshop soon. ‘Til then, get a feed of daily candy.

If only we Malaysians would take some time away from gawking at international talents, we’d notice the specks of local creativity hiding in the corners of our narrow little minds. We came across Things Eye Made quite awhile back, and are very pleased to inform our readers that Foon’s adorable trinkets are now available for sale online at Tongue in Chic’s shop.

Hauntingly beautiful illustrations handcrafted into idyllic simplicity, we’re so tempted to purchase one of each! Follow Foon at www.thingseyemade.blogspot.com, or pick up a piece of pure heart from here… Tongue in Chic has a really cute collection of accessories worth “checking out”.

Screw the overrated sensationalism of Threadless, Envelop is the new alternative to the tree-hugging, raw print designer-lovin’ trend. “Born with a profound love for textiles, and a profound love for graphics,” Envelop promotes print creativity with downloadable templates for the frisky minded to play around with. From aprons to cushion covers to the basic of totes (you can even design your own fabric prints!), Envelop shows that a little doodle and an idea or two can go a long way.

We came across Color Collective on our quest for new design inspirations. And can we just say what a lifesaver of a blog it is to the semi-colorblind among our crew! A simple space for color templates and coordinations, this is one moodboard-building reference to bookmark!

Ooooooooolala… just like anyone else spending hours faced with paperwork, we at Gin & Jacqie like to indulge in a little porn for brunch. Food porn, that is. So when we came across these beautifully handpainted iPhone cases, we drooled and we swooned and we held ourselves back from inappropriate moans and groans. This is, indeed, a “case” of something too pretty to eat! (claps hands for the brilliant pun)

Being the bag lovers that we obviously are here at Gin & Jacqie, it’s no wonder that we’d sit for hours pondering the, well… wonder, that is Josh Jakus’ wool felt bags. The ingenious idea was conceptualised in 2005, and has been copied into plastic by the spoilers of the fashion industry – China and Thailand mass manufacturers. Still, nothing beats the original.
